Tel Aviv-Jaffa on the Mediterranean coast is today Israel’s major and largest metropolitan center. Jaffa has a long history, but Tel Aviv is a comparatively new city founded in 1909. In Old Testament times, David and Solomon occupied Jaffa and used it as a port to receive timber from Lebanon.
